Support for Charities

Throughout their history, Quakers have been deeply concerned with questions of peace, social justice and responsibility . The interests of Abingdon Quakers are reflected in the Meeting's support for charities.

Monthly Special Collection

Each month the Meeting makes a special collection for a charity in which a member has a particular interest. These appeals are continuing through the COVID-19 crisis, when we ask donors to contribute directly to the charity concerned.

We are currently supporting ThePorch. The Porch in Oxford is a centre which provides essential day-long support for homeless and vulnerably housed people wanting to move forward in their lives, away from street life and addiction. Members (users) of The Porch may be unemployed, suffering from mental illness and/or relying on drugs or alcohol to dull the pain of sleeping rough and going hungry.
