Support for Charities

Throughout their history, Quakers have been deeply concerned with questions of peace, social justice and responsibility . The interests of Abingdon Quakers are reflected in the Meeting's support for charities.

Monthly Special Collection

Each month the Meeting makes a special collection for a charity in which a member has a particular interest. During March 2010 we are supporting the local branches of Home Start. Through a network of nearly 16,000 trained parent volunteers Home Start support thousands of parents who are struggling to cope. Their families need support for many reasons including post-natal illness, disability, bereavement, the illness of a parent or child, or social isolation. Children's Charity

The charity chosen to benefit from the Special Collection during the Christmas season is always one of special interest to the children at Abingdon Quaker Meeting. The children maintain an interest in this charity through the coming year and raise additional contributions through occasional projects. This year we are supporting OXFAM Unwrapped, with the children choosing the OXFAM projects to support..
