Support for Charities

Throughout their history, Quakers have been deeply concerned with questions of peace, social justice and responsibility . The interests of Abingdon Quakers are reflected in the Meeting's support for charities.

Monthly Special Collection

Each month the Meeting makes a special collection for a charity in which a member has a particular interest.

During August 2008 our collections will go to the Re-building Appeal for Jordans Quaker Meeting House, an historic Quaker Meeting House which was badly damaged by fire in 2005.

Long term support for charities

• The Meeting has embarked on long-term support for "The Abingdon Bridge" project of the Church in Abingdon. This is a project which provides a drop-in centre and wider support for young people as they face the often difficult transition to adulthood.
• Quaker Peace and Social Witness (QPSW) work in Uganda
