Support for Charities
Throughout their history, Quakers have been deeply concerned with questions of peace, social justice and responsibility . The interests of Abingdon Quakers are reflected in the Meeting's support for charities.
Monthly Special Collection
Each month the Meeting makes a special collection for a charity in which a member has a particular interest. During June and July we are supporting Kennington Overseas Aid's project for 2010. Kennington is a village between Abingdon and Oxford which every year since 1968 as chosen an overseas aid project to support through a wide range of fundraising activities. This year KOA is helping Practical Action in their project "Improving Lives - Peru, Bolivia & Equador".
Children's Charity
The charity chosen to benefit from the Special Collection during the Christmas season is always one of special interest to the children at Abingdon Quaker Meeting. The children maintain an interest in this charity through the coming year and raise additional contributions through occasional projects. This year we are supporting OXFAM Unwrapped, with the children choosing the OXFAM projects to support..
